ABOUT THE OBLIQUE SECTION

About The Oblique Section

An independent data publication built on one method: cut the sample open. The publisher of record is the publication itself, 斜切面 / The Oblique Section.

Why "Oblique Section"

News on the surface, ledgers in the cross-section. Every annual report, sales brochure and transit budget is polished on its face; only an oblique cut through the sample reveals the holding structure, the compounding interest, the land cost and the common-area loading inside.

That is the only thing this publication does: cut public material open and hand the reader a ledger they can recompute themselves.

Method

Build the ledger first, conclude second. No judgement sentence is allowed before a recomputable numeric model exists, and every parameter in that model carries a stated source and assumption.

Every number is traceable. The author must be able to name the primary source: URA land sale records, the HDB resale price index, MOM wage reports, LTA ridership, NEA air monitoring, CEA transaction records, developer filings. Anything that cannot be traced to a primary source is labelled an estimate, with a stated error band.

Conclusions must be falsifiable. We publish exit-price red lines, break-even thresholds and cash-flow floors -- numbers that can be proven wrong -- rather than adjectives that cannot be tested.

Uncertainty is printed. Where the record is insufficient, the conclusion reads "cannot be determined" instead of being padded with confident tone.

What we do not do

We accept no developer content deals, sponsored placements or transaction commissions.

We do not recommend agents, act on a reader’s behalf, give investment advice, or sell reader lists or data.

Text may be quoted and republished with attribution to "斜切面 / The Oblique Section" and a link to the original. Commercial reuse requires written permission.

Corrections

When a published fact or calculation is wrong, it is corrected in place with the correction date and a description of what changed at the foot of the article. Never a silent edit.

If you arrive at a different number, write in with your working. A disagreement that can be recomputed is the most useful reader feedback we receive.
